- --=--======== WAVE - Brainwave Synchronization Voice File maker ========--=--
- - ---=-==============================================================-=--- -
- ________
- OVERVIEW The WAVE program generates Sound Blaster .VOC voice files that,
- ________ when listened to with stereo headphones, will synchronize your
- brainwave patterns into any desired state. This program is probably unlike
- any others in your repetoire, but is well worth having if only to help you
- get a good nights sleep! Scientists have long known that different brainwave
- frequencies are associated with different states of mind. With this program,
- you can create files to generate states ranging from deep sleep and medita-
- tion, to wide awake and alert.
- ____________
- REQUIREMENTS * Lots of hard drive space. Files are always stereo at 22K,
- ____________ which take approximately 2.65 megabytes per minute.
- * Patience. Depending on the machine, files could take anywhere
- from the file's play time to 5 times the playing time. Without
- a coprocessor, calculations could take 6 times longer still.
- But once the file is generated, it can be archived, or even
- recorded on tape for future use.
- * Open mind. Yes, it works better on people who take this
- seriously and give the sounds a chance to "work". It really
- DOES work! Within minutes, I can achieve the desired state.
- * Sound Blaster capable of playing 22K stereo .VOC files
- * Stereo headphones, it only works with headphones.
- __________
- THE AUTHOR That's me, David Johnston. I have been working with programs
- __________ like this, and other so called meditation tapes and machines, for
- a number of months now, and have found that the sounds this program creates
- are very powerful. I work at a very well known software company, and have a
- Sound Blaster at home. By the way, this program is absolutely FREE, so please
- give it to anyone you like. The important thing is that more people be able
- to experience what these sounds can do for them. And yes, there are many
- uses, which will be explained in more detail later. But hey, if you WANT to
- reward the author in some way, let me know how the program has worked for you,
- and any enhancements you'd like to see? I'll leave my address and an email
- route at the end of this document. Have fun!
- ______________________________
- WHAT AM I GETTING MYSELF INTO? This program works like many meditation tapes
- ______________________________ and light/sound devices on the market, which
- range in price from $200 to $500. There's even a board available with plug
- in glasses (which have blinking lights) for your PC for $495. I think the
- files this creates are even more powerful, and are definitely more pleasing
- to the ears. Most other devices and tapes have a "humming" sound or some
- other tones to induce the write brainwave frequencies. This program has the
- option of tones (which I never use), but also has a waterfall noise, and
- allows you to turn your own recordings into brainwave syncronization files.
-
- Here's a list of the four major brainwave patterns:
-
- Beta: > 13 hz Normal state of alertness, stress and anxiety.
- Alpha: 8-12 hz Light relaxation, "superlearning", positive thinking
- Theta: 4-7 hz Deep relaxation, meditation, increased memory and focus
- Delta: 1-3 hz Deep sleep, lucid dreaming, increased immune functions
-
- ______________
- USING WAVE.EXE There are two programs provided, WAVE.EXE for those who do not
- ______________ have a math coprocessor or 486, or 586, etc., and WAVE87.EXE
- for those fortunate enough to own a math coprocessor, or 486, or 586, etc.
-
- Usage: WAVE <dest-file.VOC> <source-script.WV>
- <dest-file.VOC> is name of the .VOC brainwave file you want to create
- <source-script.WV> is the .WV script file used to describe how to
- generate the .VOC file.
-
- Example: WAVE water.voc water.wv
-
- Be sure you have enough free space to create the .VOC file. To do this, add
- up how much time is specified in the .WV file's wave lines. Multiply the
- number of seconds by 44.124K to estimate the space required. The provided
- files have the following times and hard disk space requirements:
-
- File Time/Seconds Space
- --------------------------------------
- ALPHA.WV 7:10 / 430s 19 MB
- BUZZ.WV 1:00 / 60s 2.65 MB
- DELTA.WV 7:00 / 420s 18.6 MB
- HEAL.WV 13:35 / 815s 36 MB
- REFRESH.WV 10:00 / 600s 26.5 MB
- THETA.WV 9:10 / 550s 24.3 MB
- VISION1.WV 5:00 / 300s 13.3 MB
- VISION2.WV 5:00 / 300s 13.3 MB
- WATER.WV 4:48 / 288s 12.7 MB
-
- You can also modify the sample .WV files, or create your own custom file as
- outlined below.

- __________________
- FORMAT OF .WV FILE These are just ordinary text files with instructions for
- __________________ the wave program. The file is checked for correct syntax
- before the .VOC file is generated. Here are the main sections, which may
- be repeated in any order. The only restriction is that an input must be
- specified before doing the brainwave pattern creation (WAVE...) on it.
-
- COMMENTS: Comments should be inside curley braces, or after semicolons.
-
- BLOCKS: blocksize=<numbytes> sets the size of the voice blocks that will be
- written out. if <numbytes> is 44100, the blocks will be 1 second
- each. Larger block sizes may reduce "clicking" found in some voice
- file players. Blocks will be approximately the size specified
- since blocks end as closely as possible to left channel = 128
-
- INPUTS: Choose one of the following:
-
- source=noise of <loudness>
- <loudness> is from 3 to about 30 (I usually use 10). This produces
- a nice waterfall/rushing river sound which is great for relaxation
-
- source=tone of <freq> hz
- <freq> is the frequency in Hertz of the tone to use. Tones of 90
- to about 300 should work best, although I prefer the noise sounds
- instead
-
- source=file <filename.VOC>
- <filename.VOC> is the 22K stereo file to use as the source input.
- If you have MONO 22K files, you can use the PHASE utility to convert
- it to stereo (PHASE monofile.VOC stereofile.VOC N). The file will
- be looped if it is smaller than the destination.
-
- PREP: Choose one of the following:
-
- source=mono
- The left and right channels are the input's (L+R)/2. This just
- sounds like standard mono.
-
- source=inverse
- The left channel gets (L+R)/2, the right channel gets -(L+R)/2.
- Sounds seem as if they are coming from the center of your head.
-
- source=stereo
- This leaves the left and right channels untouched.
-
- SPATIAL: Chose one of the following, or leave out entirely:
-
- source=wave of 0 at <location>
- <location> is the spot where your brain will think the sound is
- coming from. Negative locations are on the left, while positive
- locations are on the right. Locations less than -20, or greater
- than 20 have no more effect than just using -20 or 20.
-
- source=wave of <frequency> hz from <location1> to <location2>
- Cycle the perceived source of the sound from <location1> to
- <location2> and back again every 1/<frequency> seconds. This gives
- nice special effects for relaxation by moving the source around,
- which enhances the effects of the brainwave pattern being used.
-
- source=wave ... theta <degrees>
- End a source=wave line with a starting point. If <location1> is
- on the left (negative) and <location2> is on the right, a <degrees>
- of 180 will start at the right, a <degrees> of 90 will start in the
- middle, etc.
-
- WAVES: These are the actual brainwave patterns, and duration of each.
-
- wave of <frequency> hz for <time-secs> seconds
- wave of <frequency> hz for <time-mins> minutes
- Generate a brainwave frequency of <frequency> hz (frequencies to
- use are described throughout this document, and should be between
- 1 and about 20 hz. This is a Real number, so decimal amounts like
- 7.554 are OK). The duration iw for <time-secs> seconds, or in
- <time-mins> minutes if you prefer minutes. The <time-mins> may
- also be a decimal value.
-
- wave from <freq1> hz to <freq2> hz in <time> [minutes/seconds]
- The <time> parameter works the same as above. Brainwave patterns
- will glide smoothly from <freq1> hz to <freq2> hz.
-
- wave from <freq1> hz to <freq2> hz in <time> seconds <cyc> cycles
- In this case, the frequency will oscillate between <freq1> and
- <freq2> a number of <cyc> times in <time> seconds. With whole
- number values for <cyc>, the ending frequency will be <freq1>,
- for <cyc> ending in .5, the ending frequency will be <freq2>. This
- is handy to know, so you don't end up suddenly jumping from one
- frequency to another (unless you want to?!?)
-
- wave from <freq1> hz sep <sep1> to <freq2> hz sep <sep2> in...
- The separation parameter may be added to adjust the intensity of
- the encoded brainwave pattern. An intensity separation of 0 means
- no pattern, whereas an intensity of about 15 is the maximum. So
- an intensity of less than 2 will have very little effect on the
- brain. Usually, lower intensities are used for higher frequencies.
- I use about 10-12 for frequencies less than 7hz, and 4-10 for those
- above 7hz.
-
- wave to <freq> hz in...
- If the from section is ignored, the previous frequency and
- separation values where the last wave ended at are used as the
- starting point.
-
- Please look at the sample files if you need more clarity on how
- to define a wave entry.
- ____________
- ENHANCEMENTS Use the MIX program provided to mix two brainwave .VOC files
- ____________ together. I have tried a 4-7hz cycling wave that is spacially
- located from -15 to -2 (cycling every 12 seconds) mixed with another 4-7hz
- cycling wave (with slightly different frequencies and cycle times) spacially
- located from 2 to 15 (cycling every 15 seconds). The MIX program is pretty
- self explanitory. The <proportions> are in percent, so if both files are
- mixed at 100, the resultant file could be twice as lound, and may clip.
- Mixing with values that sum to 100 is a good starting place. You can mix your
- own subliminal messages at, say 15 and keep the brainwave file at 100.
- The <time> in the MIX command is the time of the resultant mixed file, and
- should be the length of the longest of the two files being mixed.
-
- _________
- MANY USES * Relaxation
- _________ Choose between 5hz and 10 hz for different levels of relaxation.
- * Meditation
- Choose between 4hz and 7hz, either cycle between a few, or stay
- at a particular frequency for different results.
- * Induce Sleep
- Choose between 4hz and 6hz for starters, then go into frequencies
- below 3.5hz, settling on about 1.5hz to 2.5hz for sleep.
- * Creative Visualization
- About 6hz for a while, then up to 10hz works well.
- * Stress Reduction
- Any use of frequencies below 11hz will reduce stress.
- * Self Hypnosis
- Choose about 8hz to 10hz while playing any self-hypnosis tape,
- or guided meditation.
- * Super Learning
- Choose about 7hz to 9hz while playing any learning tapes, like
- foreign language tapes, etc. to increase comprehension.
- * Subliminal Programming
- Choose 5hz to 7hz while playing your favorite subliminal tapes,
- or make your own by recording a .VOC file with your messages,
- and mixing it with your brainwave .VOC file at a bearly audible
- volume.
- * Improve ESP / Intuition
- Theta frequencies help in this area, 4hz to 7hz.
- * Reaching Higher States of Consciousness
- Theta again.
- * Quick Refresher on long days
- Low Alpha 8hz to 10hz works well.
- __________
- HOW TO USE Once you have created your .VOC file (5 minute files on up work
- __________ best) create a batch file to loop the playing of the file. Or,
- you can use Sound Blaster's JOINTVOC program to create a looping of your file.
- In any case, sessions of 15 minutes or more work best. It is best to listen
- to the sessions lying down in a quiet place where you will not be disturbed.
- If there is no place like this near your PC, it may be a good idea to record
- the session on tape to listen to where you can be comfortable and relaxed.
- When your fully comfortable, start the session, close your eyes, and let the
- magical sounds from your Sound Blaster do the work. Remember, this only works
- if your Sound Blaster can reprodouce stereo sound, and you listen to it with
- stereo headphones.
- You may notice helicopter, or "washing" type noises moving around in your
- head. These sounds are actually created inside your head, and are not coming
- directly out of either channel from the sound board. It is this noise that
- is doing the work of helping your brainwaves get synchronized to the patterns
- you have chosen. When I have mixed two different frequency pattern waves
- together, I have noticed a jet airplane noise moving slowly from left to
- right in the background. Some people don't hear these artifacts at all, while
- others hear them extremely well.
-
- Another side effect is that of a wandering mind. When I use frequencies
- under 8hz, I find myself thinking of the strangest things. You may find that
- you are not thinking of anything in particular, and your thoughts become very
- interesting. The feeling is also "warm" and "happy" for some people. Others
- start recalling their favorite memories as a child, some they thought they had
- forgotten!
- After a session of 15 minutes or more, you may feel quite refreshed, light,
- airy, clear-headed, etc. I always find myself feeling very good afterwards.
- Some claim that doing this for 30 minutes a day can result in subtle but great
- changes in your life. ESP experiences increase, and you may be able to reach
- new levels of awareness in your everyday life.

- UNSOLICITED TESTIMONIALS
- ________________________
- Note: Any results gained from using Light/Sound devices such as the Voyager,
- the Brain Machine, MasterMind, the MindsEye, etc. can be gained from
- listening to these files as well. Some of these excerpts are from
- results using flashing light goggles with tones.
-
- This is my own testimonial. I find that within minutes of listening to a
- thetawave pattern, my thoughts start drifting to really weird stuff that
- doesn't make any sense at all. It is really quite funny some of the things
- I find myself thinking of. Then I start to feel really "good" and relaxed--
- at peace if you will.
-
- It has been stated in several places that a half hour a day of the brain
- being in the theta state can replace up to 4 hours of sleep. People find
- they need less sleep at night.
-
- Thirty patients had sessions in Theta (5 hz) and experienced relaxation
- states of 80-100% after five minutes as well as improved pain relief. Eight
- patients had blood tests before and after the sessions and showed improved
- beta-endorphin levels of 10-50%.
-
- Using a first-generation prototype light/sound device, one doctor noted,
- "these devices produce a distinct relaxation state. Programming the device
- between 3 and 7 hz, it takes about 10 to 15 minutes for the patients to
- enter--effortlessly--a state of hypnosis. They terminate the sessions
- relaxed and with a feeling of well-being." Also, "the device has a calming
- effect on the nervous or anxious patients. In a majority of cases, the
- patients feel relaxed, and calm during a period of three to four days after
- the session. It happnes that the subjects have a reminiscence of childhood
- experiences, particularly when in Theta. The related their experineces which
- we incorporated into our psychotherapeutic program."
-
- "The machine works like a tranquilizer and the effect lasts for several days.
- Using the machines in Theta frequency, clients are very receptive to
- suggestions on behavioral aspects such as reducing tobacco, alcohol and food
- consumptions." Many patients "were more creative during the sessions."
-
- "By inducing hemispheric coherence the machine can contribute to improved
- intellectual functioning of the brain. Like children spending most of their
- time in Theta, the machine allows a reduction in learning time. With adults
- a return into Theta allows them to rediscover childhood experiences. The
- machine is like a 'lost and found office' for the subconscious."
-
-
- D.J. Anderson, B.Sc., M.B., "The treatment of Migraine with Variable
- Frequency Photo-Stimulation," in HEADACHE, March 1989, pp 154-155:
- D.J. Anderson used photo-stimulating goggles with variable frequency using
- red LEDs in order to stimulate the optic nerve, through closed eyes, right
- and left with frequencies between 0.5 and 50 hz. The study included
- seven patients who suffered a total of more than 50 migraines during the
- observation period. Forty-nine of these migraines were relieved (either
- by reducing the average duration or by increasing the frequency interval
- in between migraine crisis) and 36 other migraines could be stopped while
- using the goggles.
-
- The more these sounds are used, the easier it becomes to produce and maintain
- Alpha/Theta rhythms. As these states of higher awareness become infused into
- normal brain activity, the result can lead to what some have called a fifth
- state of consciousness, or an "awakened mind." In this state of illumination
- and bliss one sees the world as distinctly as before but with a new mind that
- perceives the universe with new meaning. It's this experience of illumination
- that is the seed for all breakthrough scientific theories, literary ideas,
- revolutionary inventions, and artistic masterpieces. The technology used
- here induces these states by forcing your brain to focus your mental energies
- inward... tapping your own vast reserve of creative genius and eventually
- unfolding "an enlightened state of awareness."
-
- An unusual side benefit of listening to these sounds is a surprising need
- for less sleep. SOme users are able to reduce their sleep requirement by as
- much as 3 - 4 hours each night, rising each morning feeling refreshed as if
- they had slept a full 8 hours. The reason? It's believed the theta-sounds
- replace the need for extensive dreaming which is the main purpose of sleep.
- Another interesting side effect, many users report a dramatic increase in
- sex drive. No one knows exactly why, but it may be linked to changes in brain
- chemistry.
- But, perhaps the most unusual side effect is the reported increase in
- psychic functioning, including episodes of precognition, out-of-body
- experiences, and spontaneous channeling events.
-
- When you finish each session your entire body becomes charged with a new energy
- and vitality. Fears and anxieties are gone. You are renewed, more alert, and
- mentally you feel on top of the world.
-
- What causes the euphoria and peak experiences? The neuroscientists say the
- 'high' you experience is caused by a release of endorphins in the brain. A
- hundred times more powerful than morphine it makes you feel like you're
- soaring with eagles.
-
- Zen meditators have been found to alter Alpha/Theta frequency according to
- their depth of meditation, reports Japan's leading neurophysiologist, Dr.
- Tomio Hirai. he has correlated brain-wave patterns with certain stages of
- meditation. And according to Dr. Hirai, "Meditation is not merely a state
- between mental stability and sleep, but a condition in which the mind operates
- at the optimum. In this condition the person is relaxed but ready to accept
- and respond positively to any stimulus that may reach him."
-
-
- Research now confirms that brainwave rhythms correspond to certain states of
- consciousness, and this suggests that individuals capable of altering their
- brainwave patterns can have significant control over other mental and physio-
- logical functioning. As Elmer and Alyce Green of the famous Menninger
- Institute first reported in the mid-70's, "...simply causing your brain to
- generate theta activity for a few meinutes each day seems to have enormous
- benefits, including boosting the immune system, enhancing creativity, and
- triggering integrative experiences leading to feelings of psychological
- well-being."
-
- Biofeedback researchers have found that people who enter the "theta state,"
- expande their states of consciousness, acquire super-receptivity to new
- information, and demonstrate a greater ability to "rescript" material on a
- subconscious level. Even more astonishing are the findings of a study
- conducted on a group of chronic alcoholics at a University in Colorado. After
- 13 weeks the group that learned to generate theta and alpha brainwaves, showed
- a far greater recover rate, and a complete transformation of personality.
- There is a remarkable body of evidence...
-
- Another Note: I did not do alot of proper citing, I just wanted to present
- some information that is available "out there".
